We ran the diagnosis on ourselves first.
Before we pointed HitMind at anyone else's site, we pointed it at ours. 180 days of Search Console came back with 41k impressions and 46 clicks. This page is the whole read-out — including the two conclusions we got wrong about our own data, and one box still empty because the 28 days aren't up.
A sibling product built by the same team · diagnosed 2026-07-02 · sources: a 277-page GSC URL Inspection sweep, the 180-day Search Console export, 7 live SERP checks, DataForSEO. Nothing here is modelled, sampled or estimated.
Four things wrong with our own site.
All four came out of one week of measurement on a sibling product built by the same team — not a customer, and not HitMind's own domain. We publish them because a diagnosis you can check beats a case study you can't.
The plumbing was not the problem.
180 days of Search Console: 41k impressions, 46 clicks — and most of those impressions were rank-tracker crawler queries, not people. What we lacked was pages that catch real demand.
62 pages are indexed and have never been seen.
Zero impressions in 180 days, 51 of them programmatic /compare/ pages. Indexed is not the same as wanted.
36 pages never made it into the index — including our own tool page.
28 Discovered-not indexed plus 8 Unknown to Google: 27 /compare/, 4 /tool/ — and one of those four is the /tool/ page about the product itself.
Two things we “knew” about this site were false.
“268 orphan pages” and “209 pages not indexed” were both written into our own plan. Measured: 94% of pages have 3 or more inbound links, the only orphan is /pricing; 240 of 277 pages are indexed. We came within a week of fixing a site that didn't exist.
Four stages. Three have numbers. The fourth doesn't yet.
Measure page by page, never dashboard-wide — 277 URL Inspection calls.
One per sitemap URL, plus the 180-day export, 7 live SERP checks and DataForSEO. Both of our wrong conclusions had been read off a summary screen.
Seven keywords in, four pages out — nothing else gets built.
The seven cluster by SERP shape rather than wording: one free tool page for the checker cluster, three list pages kept deliberately distinct. The head term ai visibility tool (1300/KD16) explicitly gets no page of its own.
Write the spec before the draft — 4 briefs, flagship at 8k+ words.
Each brief fixes the outline, word count, schema and internal links before anyone writes a sentence: 5,000–6,000 words for the exact-match list, 6,000+ for the scored one, 1,500–2,000 words of education around the free checker — linked in at template level by 158 compare pages and 83 tool pages.
The receipt — 28 days live, then the two windows side by side. Not open.
A receipt puts the 28 days of Search Console before an article went live next to the 28 days after. It measures; it does not claim causation. Ours is empty.
Still running: day 64 since the 2026-07-02 diagnosis. In our own files these four pages are still marked “awaiting sign-off”, with no publish record — so the 28-day clock hasn't started. The north star in the plan is Search Console clicks, first review four weeks in. Whichever page ships first gets its receipt printed 28 days later, however ugly the number is.
Six things we'd tell you before you trust any dashboard — including ours.
Indexed is not demand: 87% of our pages are indexed, and 62 of them have had zero impressions for 180 days.
When 41k impressions turn into 46 clicks, the thing to fix is what you write about, not your plumbing.
We misread our own data twice, and the only reason we caught it was refusing to trust the summary screen: “268 orphan pages” and “209 not indexed” both dissolved once we inspected all 277 pages one at a time — the summary had been counting parameter URLs, variants and stray URLs that were never in the sitemap.
The window is real and it is closing: sites with DR≈0 hold page-one positions in these SERPs today, and the whole industry is mining the same keyword file.
Format decides the fight before word count does: “checker” queries are won by tool pages — articles score zero — while “best” queries want an 8–10k-word hands-on list.
A page with no receipt gets no number: 64 days in, this case study has a diagnosis and a plan and no result — and we would rather leave the box empty than fill it.
Clicks, impressions and positions before and after — those we can measure. Attributing money to a single article we cannot do honestly, so we print none.
Post-publish rankings, receipt windows, click delta. Those boxes stay empty until the 28 days are up. When they fill, this page changes and the date above changes with it.
